Michael Franzmann, BFA, ADC   

 

Residing in Victoria, B.C. Michael has been designing lights for Theatre, Music Festivals, Concerts, and Corporate events for the past fifteen years. His work has been seen around Canada and Asia, and has achieved such awards as the Dora award he shares with Atomic Vaudeville for their production of Ride the Cyclone

Through his training Michael has studied at the University of Victoria, The Banff Centre for the Arts, and Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University, and spent three years as assistant lighting designer at the world renown Stratford Shakespeare Festival. 

Currently he is the resident designer for Victoria's Distrikt Nightclub, where he creates lighting and video designs for genres ranging from electronic dance music, indie rock, ska, reggae, and hip hop. Through which he has lit such artists as The Stanfields, USS, Excision, Big K.R.I.T., Adventure Club. Dub FX, The Chainsmokers, and The Planet Smashers

As the lighting director for Rifflandia's Phillips Brewery Stage and the Rifftop tent, The Philips Backyard Weekender and Tall Tree Music Festival's Spirit Stage and has had the privilege of lighting for such artists as Hilltop Hoods, Macklemore, Danny Brown, Humans, Beats Antique, Kool Keith, and Grand Analog

He is also the head designer and programmer for DL Sound where he oversees lighting production and designs for such companies as Atomique Productions, Surge Events, Desire Marketing Systems, and Three Point Motors. He has produced single designs for such artists as Sharon Jones, Wintersleep, Deltron 3030, John and Roy, and Ani DiFranco.
